Do you want to create great content?

If the answer is yes, keep reading. I have pulled together the steps you need to take to create engaging content for your audience which follows on from our last blog ‘7 Reasons Why Content Is Key To Business Growth.

Know your target audience

Knowing your customer is of utmost importance when creating content both for them and for you.

If you’re a B2B (business to business) organisation for example, you will want to know what job role your typical customer has, are they the CEO or are they a marketing director. With this information, you will be better able to understand what content your customer will value.

Create valuable content for them

Content marketing is all about creating content that your audience will value. Write things that potential customers will care about, and they will engage with you and your organisation. Think about the common questions they ask you and the problems or challenges they face – and write about it.

Every time you put out new content, ask yourself this … “Will my customer care?”

Create unique content

Your content needs to be unique to your brand, it should portray your brand personality and values and it should include content that your team are passionate about.

Content marketing is a great opportunity to enhance your brand personality. Take this opportunity to create content that shows off who you are and what you stand for.

Create a killer headline

The headline is the first thing your audience will see and is what will make them decide whether they want to read or engage or not, so it needs to be catchy. There’s no point in creating content if your headline doesn’t catch peoples attention.

A good headline should be neither too long or too short, around 6-7 words is ideal for a blog post. Your headline should be relevant and could be worded in a way that makes your article sounds like it will solve a problem or make life better for your audience e.g. “5 ways … will solve …”

Content theme Ideas…

Share expertise:

Sharing your knowledge will not only add value, but it will also increase your perceived expertise and authority and therefore will build trust.

Take a stance:

Write about your opinion on a current issue, or topic in your industry or in the media. If you do go down this route, make sure you understand both sides of the issue, and maybe be prepared to answer any questions that might come your way.

It’s not all about you:

Try to not just talk about your products. People want your expertise, they don’t want to be sold to.
